Getting started

About ten minutes, nothing technical. When you're done, your kid chats with ChatGPT and Claude through your family's safety rules, and you can see how it's going without reading over their shoulder.

  1. Get the app and create your account. Install YouGoodAI: iPhone and iPad from the App Store, Android through our beta at yougoodai.com/beta. Open it, and tap Create your family account. It's free during early access and we cover the AI costs; there are no AI-company accounts or API keys to set up. Signing in as the parent opens guardian mode, your side of the app.
  2. Set your display name. You'll land on the Memberstab. The “How your family sees you” box sets the name your kids know you by. When a rule steps in, the AI invokes you by name: “Sorry, Mom says I can't talk about that” instead of a generic message. Optional, but it means the rules visibly come from you, because they do.

  3. Add your kid with a QR code. Install YouGoodAI on their phone (same links). On their device, tap Kids: joining your family?and a QR code appears. In your app's Members tab, tap Add kid, scan their code, type their name, done. No email address, no password for them to lose. (Kids using a computer instead of a phone can be invited by email from the web dashboard.)
  4. Know the nine protections are already on. Violence, weapons, self-harm, adult content, drugs, alcohol, tobacco and vaping, gambling, and profanity monitoring are active from the moment your family exists, before your kid sends their first message. Visit the Policiestab to see them; you don't have to configure anything on day one. See how the safety rules work when you want to make them yours.

  5. Try your first block.From your kid's chat (or before you hand the device over), ask something a default covers. The AI declines calmly, in your name, right in the conversation, and the event lands in your Activity tab and email: which rule, which kid, never the conversation. That round trip is the whole product in one moment.

  6. Choose how you hear about things. In guardian Settings (the gear), pick instant emails, daily or weekly digests, or both, per type of event. This is also where you can turn on web search (current answers with sources, checked by your rules) and the teaching modes.
The one thing worth doing before you hand the app to your kid: read For your kid together. YouGoodAI never monitors in secret, and the setup conversation is where the trust gets built.

What your kid gets
